Another Day, Another Opportunity to make something beautiful for someone (Part 1)

The very best part of my day job is that I have had the opportunity to work with some very interesting people. Among all those characters, I was lucky to meet my friend Elena. She is foodie with a love of donuts, strong sense of fun and style, and can be trusted for recommendations to great spots all over town. I was so excited when I heard that such a cool girl had found herself a wonderful boy and had fallen in love and now the happy couple is engaged!!

To celebrate their love story I decided to make them a small album so she can put in some snapshots of themselves. I wanted the album to have bright colors, with a retro and vintage feel while using some cursive fonts that you are seeing everywhere now.

For this project, I chose a square chipboard album that was approximately 6x6 according to the outside covering, but was actually a bit smaller, then I chose main and accent papers, some punches that would work and got some wooden embellishments at Michaels that worked perfectly with the color palette I had in mind. To get the pages started, I covered the chipboard with some modge podge using a sponge brush and made sure to check that there were no air bubbles and that it was smooth and well stuck on. For covering chipboard I have found that thinner paper works better for me in getting an even and consistent covering.

Once I applied the paper the top sides of the chipboard and it dried I used my Crop-A-Dile to make sure that I did not cover over the holes on the chipboard for the rings to go through to bind the book. A tip to make the holes correctly line up is that I first punch a small hole through the backside of the chipboard where the hole is visible and then flip it, using the small hole I punched as a center and punch a larger hole through the decorated side so that the paper is punched through the inside of the chipboard.

After that the process is repeated on the back sides of the paper and off to decorating we go. Here is a sneak peek at some of the pages so far.
