What do you gift one of your besties when she is getting rid of her uterus?

A cute plushie one to replace it, of course.

When one of my best friends was having surgery to remove her uterus, we talked a bit about how she felt about having the surgery and the recovery and what it meant. During one of our conversations I mentioned that I had thought of making her a uterus stuffie, as a joke, but I did not think there was a cute way to do it. She told me that she was sure there was a cute version of it. I took that as a crafting challenge so I had to make something adorable for her.

Starting with a cut file from Cricut Design Space, I cut some felt and iron on with my Cricut Maker. I cut the image exactly as it came. The only additional thing I had to do the file was to add an extra background layer to be used as the back of the stuffie.

The cutting and ironing-on are quick. The hand stitching the pieces together and strategically stuffing it as you go along is the hard part. The sides are really narrow so something like a pencil or a chopstick will help push the stuffing through to the bottom and the best way to access that is from the inside as you are sewing that area.

This image was originally designed two-dimensional, there is not much of a border to work with in putting together the stuffie. For example, it wouldn't work to sew it inside out and flip it over because the hem needed would mess up the shape, I think it works best to sew the two pieces together, top stitching and staying very close to the edge. I put the top piece facing outward and aligned the back piece and stitched them together by hand. Since I am still a sewing notice it took forever; however, it did come out pretty cute so it was totally worth it.

Now is this a gift for everyone? Probably not. However, if you have a friend with a sense of humor this could be something which could bring them a laugh.
