Making a friend for May the 4th
This is actually a project I made last year for the May the 4th, but I had not posted him here before. He was my first time experimenting with using iron on images to decorate felt and he is still one of my favorites.
If you are a Chewie fan and are looking for a relatively easy project this would be an easy one to do. The materials are two pieces of brown felt, iron-on in black, stuffing/filling, a sewing needle and thread (preferably brown).
The Chewie image can be found on Design Space and can be sized to whichever size you would like your Chewie to be. Keep in mind that for this project, you are going to use the image from design space and use the offset feature to create the image for the background. You will need to cut the original image from iron vinyl and then cut two pieces of felt to create the actual plushie.
Once you have cut everything out, iron on the vinyl to one side of the felt. Make sure to use the proper settings for felt as it may need a lower temperature than other fabrics. Then put the pieces together, with the image facing the top and hand stitch the pieces. The offset amount is a good guide as to where to stitch. Once you are abut an inch from meeting up the stitching from where you started, fill in with stuffing and then stitch again until it meets with original stitch and the plushie is fully closed.
CRAFTY PROJECT UPDATE!!!
I shared my project and it is now public on Cricut Design Space to help you make your own Chewie! You have to purchase the image from Cricut but I have set up the different elements for you to set up your materials and cut. It is sized so that you can use the standard sized precut felt pieces sold in most stores. Remember that if you are using the Cricut Maker, you will cut the iron-on vinyl with the regular blade and then switch to the rotary blade to cut the felt. Hope this makes it easier for you have co-pilot buddy of your own. You can get directly to the project from the link below.
