Grinchmas Ornament - Cuddly as a Cactus
I usually change my Christmas theme every year and one of my favorite parts of coming up with a different theme is that I get to create some new ornaments to match my theme. This year my theme is the Grinch so I thought to make some ornaments using iron on and felt inspired by the Grinch's theme song.
My first ornament is "cuddly as a cactus." It was pretty easy to make using a using a few basic shapes from Cricut Design Space.
I first searched for ornaments and decided on one particular shape that would work well to be cut from felt and serve as a base.
The file has four different layers; however, I only used the background layer.
I then picked a cactus outline shape that could be cut from iron on. Then, using the offset feature, I created the shape to be cut from felt. The iron on would be applied to that felt and then that felt piece could be attached to the ornament shape.
As for the text, I wrote out "cuddly as a cactus" in DTC Honey Syrup font. I used the feature to curve the text within the size of the ornament. Curving Text Tip: If your text is expanding too much when you curve it, you can add space before and after to modify the placement.
To cut the elements for the ornament, you need to do to two different procedures using your Cricut. Using the pink (fabric) mat and the rotary blade, select the ornament shape and cactus offset shape and cut the felt. Then using the fine point blade, cut the iron-on material (don't forget to mirror) and weed out the extra pieces. Then iron on the letters and outline to the felt pieces and apply the felt pieces together using felt glue. Let the glue dry for a few hours and then add ribbon to ornament and hang from the tree!
