Last Minute Bandana
It was 4th of July and I had not prepared a properly patriotic outfit for Astro, so I had to think of something fast. What is more American than denim? It was a little late in the day so I did not have much time. I thought that repurposing an old pair of jeans into a denim bandana and perhaps some iron-on stars would work well together to give him a patriotic flair.
I found an old pair of jeans and used some ribbon to measure Astro's neck size. Because you need extra material to tie the bandana, be sure to add several inches to your measurement. I then used the ribbon as a measure and cut the leg of the jean in the appropriate length. Once I had cut the jean leg, I then opened up the jean leg and folded it in half lenghwise and then cut the folded material to create the bandana shape.
I then picked a star shape from Cricut Design Space and calculated about how many would fit in the bandana. I used white iron-on and Cricut cut them out. Then I quickly placed them on the bandana (my placement could have been a little better but I was a little distracted) and ironed them on.
Voila! Astro's bandana was finished and we were ready for an early evening meal in the yard. He was really enjoying it until the early fireworks started and then he was ready to come inside. At least he rocked his bandana for a little while and enjoy some quality time with family outside.
Even though 4th of July has passed this repurposing idea and adding iron-on vinyl to help it fit a particular holiday can be used whenever. I plan to make something for one of the upcoming holidays using the same principles. Hope this gives you an idea of things to make for your furry friend.
