Framing a sentiment - Eat, Drink, and Be Scary
Slowly but surely working on some Halloween decorations and thought for my slightly more grown up Halloween display I could use a framed sentiment with the some elegantly dark Halloween paper.
This was super quick and relatively inexpensive project using some supplies and my Cricut. Here is what I used, but you can totally change these to create your ideal project:
- 5 x 7 Hovsta frame from Ikea (about $4) which is what makes this project look cool because it is deep and allows for the sentiment to float at a distance from the background. *Be sure to thoroughly clean the plastic front of the frame prior to putting the foil on so that the sentiment will adhere well.*
- A sheet of cool Halloween paper. Mine was from an old Michael's Halloween pad in my stash.
- Cricut adhesive foil to make it shiny (because shiny is cool :-)) and transfer tape.
- Sentiment to cut out - I wanted it to say Eat, Drink, and Be Scary and had a general idea of what I wanted it to look like but but there are many pre-designed sentiments in Cricut Design Space or Etsy or being shared by designers that could perfectly work for this project.
Getting started: I had an idea in my head of what I wanted the font to look like and chose the Art Deco font from Design Space. I then simply spaced out the words based on the size of the frame. If you chose a pre-designed image just be sure to size it to the measurements of the visible part of the frame front. (Mine was approximately 3.7 x 6.5) Once you have decided what image you are going to cut be sure that you set the Cricut to cut the proper material - adhesive foil- and let the machine work its magic.
Putting the project together:Place the patterned paper on the inside back of the frame and remove the included mat. Then apply the vinyl to freshly cleaned plastic front of the frame using the transfer tape. (If you have never applied vinyl like this before, there are some great tutorials on youtube for how to apply vinyl to plastic.) Keep in mind that the adhesive foil can be a little temperamental so having a clean surface will make this project easy.
This was quick to do and this idea can translate into many other project ideas, I will definitely be trying this idea again for other things. Let me know if you try this and what you create.
